Hello BW tribe. How has your week been? If it hasn’t been great, be encouraged to know that this too shall pass and if it’s going great be fully present for all of it. Last week was a tough week for me, so to be reminded that this too shall pass helped me go through the week. To my new readers, welcome to the Becoming Well Community. You are already loved here and to my regulars welcome back tribe. I believe we are in Week 7 of the 16-part series “Can We Be Honest.” I would love to hear from you how it has been so far. Do you feel edified and empowered with the tools to thrive spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and relationally? Leave me your thoughts in the comment section.
What comes to mind when you think of the word revelation? Spiritual exclusivity? Access? Spooky? What about responsibility? A burden? Expectation? Restriction? Perhaps what comes to your mind is nothing I mentioned, yet these two words tend to trigger dread in many people. They can feel intimidating too. Whichever way you perceive these words, they are both important to your journey to spiritual, mental, emotional, and relational wellness.
All revelation means is revealed truth or being awakened to what has always been. It is an experience that occurs as you read or think about (meditate) God’s Word. His word is the ultimate truth from the first word in Genesis to the last word in Revelations, but you need the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning and depth of many parts of the Bible.
Therefore, as a believer, it is both unloving and ignorant to expect an unbeliever to understand the Bible because they don’t have the Holy Spirit activated inside of them. They don’t have the helper that you have access to. In the same breath, it shows great mismanagement when you don’t make use of the Holy Spirit in your Bible Study or meditation time with the Lord.
We often think that we can understand what God wants to communicate through all Scripture solely based on logic. I am sure you have already realized that it never works. If you don’t believe this, keep walking your journey with God and reading his word. Think about it. When something is revealed to you, is it initiated by you or someone else? That’s right, someone else. That tells you that to receive deep revelation, you need to allow someone or something else outside of you to reveal that truth.
You need the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the truth about God’s unconditional love for you to be fully freed from the fear of rejection and walk in authenticity. You need to allow him to reveal the significance of what Christ’s death did for you otherwise you will continue to downplay or dismiss it. You will continue ruminating over the hurt of the person who rejected you instead of receiving God’s acceptance of you because of what Christ did. You need to get revelation on generosity to overcome the stingy spirit and heart that continues to block the flow of what he wants to do in your life. You need to get revelation on the heart behind God’s laws or else you will despise the avenues that God uses to release his blessings over your life.
However, receiving revelation is not the end of the story. It also comes with a great sense of responsibility. James 4:17 says “Remember, it is a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” Once truth has been revealed to you, ignorance can no longer be an excuse. In addition, God expects you to share with others the truth of what you now know.
“Once truth has been revealed to you, ignorance can no longer be an excuse.”
Revelation is often released privately, but tested and experienced publicly. If it didn’t work that way, then we wouldn’t have the Bible. All the authors of the different books in the Bible might as well just have kept what God revealed to them to themselves, but what good would that be for you and I. Revelation is God’s invitation into his mind and heart. His preferred avenue to gain his perspective on things. That is the highest honor and privilege that must be stewarded well.
“Revelation is often released privately, but tested and experienced publicly.”
So here is what I want you to think about this week. In what areas of your life could you receive a revelation from the Lord? Maybe it’s identity, love, money, leadership, generosity, forgiveness, peace, faithfulness etc. What could flow through your life when you get that revelation? Your responsibility is to share that revelation once it’s done transforming you. I love you tribe and I will see you on the next one.
“Revelation from God is always ready to be shared, once it’s done transforming you.”
